If we’re being honest, we never meant to start Sustainably Packaged. It was an accident.
How does one start a business by accident?
Kaitlynne-Rae has a established business called Ifs, Ands, or Buttons. As the business grew, she began looking at ways to improve her supply chain and lower her environmental impact. The first major step in this process was taking a critical look at her packaging for online orders. This was made especially important with the COVID-19 pandemic pushing a larger and larger percentage of sales online. As her business relied on an increasing amount of shipping, the use of plastic-lined bubble mailers was something that irritated her immensely.
After months of research and pricing, an emerging product that was low weight, curbside recyclable and impact resistant was found. A blog post was written and subsequently went viral within the maker community. The supplier, however, preferred to save its resources for dealing with larger, bulk orders as opposed to the smaller orders of makers and micro and small businesses. This demand and frustration made it clear that there was a demand for these products.
“Well, what if I ordered more from you and resold them here so smaller folks can still have access to them?”
And that started off this whole adventure. All because of one awesome new product, a whole bunch of makers wanting to lower their environmental impact, and the privilege of having a large enough garage to store a large amount of mailers.
We’re glad you’re here. We hope you love these products as much as we do.
